I've been enjoying this era of painted toys in games such as Wings of War, Axis & Allies miniatures, Heroscape and Heroclix and chock full o' bits games such as Tide of Iron, War of the Ring, Memoir '44 and BattleLore because I was fairly certain it was destined to be brief.
Handcrafted military figures are not cheap to make, really. Particular and peculiar economic conditions led to it being possible for a while, but that's about to change.
